PPSSPP is a PSP (PlayStation Portable) emulator that let’s you play PSP on iPhone and iPad.
To begin PPSSPP is an application that is downloadable as a .IPA. There are several different methods in which you can install .IPA’s on iOS. In this guide I’ll be using AltStore. See other methods below.
Download PPSSPP
First you need to download the latest PPSSPP.ipa from the official site Download Here.
Click “W.MS’ latest .IPA”.
Then click “PPSSPP .ipa”.
And lastly click “Download” on the iOS pop up.
Install PPSSPP
Now you should have the PPSSPP.ipa in your downloads folder in your Files App. We can now launch AltStore to install the PSP emulator.
Click the “+” icon in AltStore.
Navigate to the Downloads folder within your Files App.
Find the PPSSPP.ipa in the Downloads folder and simply click on it to open it in AltStore.
AltStore will begin to install the PPSSPP app onto your iPhone.
Once AltStore has finished you should see PPSSPP listed in your installed apps and also see it on your device Home Screen.
Congrats you now have the PPSSPP app.
Install Games
Now you must open the PPSSPP app to generate the PPSSPP folder within the “On My iPhone” section in the Files App. This is needed as this is where you install the games.
Now that the folder structure is ready to go we can now download our favorite PSP games. I like to download games from Vimm’s Lair.
Once you have downloaded your PSP.ISO game you can move it from your downloads folder to the PPSSPP folder.
In your Downloads section locate the game and tap and hold on it then click “Move”.
Navigate to On My iPhone > PPSSPP > PSP and then click “Copy” in the upper right. This will move the game to the proper section in files.
Congrats you now have installed a PSP game into the PPSSPP app.
Playing Games
With your games installed you can now play them in the PPSSPP app. Simply launch PPSSPP.
Click the “PSP” folder and you should see your installed games.
To play your game just click it.
Play 4K Resolution
Depending on what device you are using you can increase the resolution of your gameplay. I’m running an iPhone 14 Pro Max so increasing the resolution to 4K quality is no problem.
To do this click the PPSSPP menu icon.
Then click “Settings”.
And adjust the resolution to your liking.
PPSSPP has a bunch of features and settings you can play around with. I recommend to adjust as needed.
Also PPSSPP does support MFI controllers. Using a controller can seriously elevate the gaming experience!
