In case you have been living under a rock Threads is a new social network app, here’s my review.
Now I’m not going to go into technical details in this post but rather a simple review. One thing to keep in mind is I’m writing this 4 hours after Threads launch, so yes it has bugs.
To start it’s awesome! Here are some Pros
- Clean modern UI
- Silky Smooth scrolling
- Easy interactions
- Instagram profile integration
- Yes you can post GIFs – I’ll explain later
- Web linking is beautiful
- Photo & video resolution looks high quality
- Easy to use & understand
Firstly the UI is very modern and minimalistic, I mean it’s just clean. Paired with the UI, scrolling and navigating is smooth as butter. This combo alone makes enjoyability very high for me. disclaimer I’m on iPhone 14 Pro Max this may be a factor.
The app is easy to navigate and understand. Even if you’re a complete ding dong you will figure it out I promise.
Media looks outstanding! From videos to images to web links with featured images. This is important to me as I post across multiple platforms.
Oh yes you can post GIFs, it’s not integrated yet but you can copy a GIF in another app and paste it into a Thread! Viola you’re welcome.
Ok now to the Cons
- No following section
- GIFs not integrated
- No customization at all
- Home section seems a bit random
- No hashtags
My biggest gripe with Threads is not having a section exclusive for the people I follow. Threads I need this please implement it in some way. I have no desire to always discover new people. I like the ones I follow.
Furthermore the home section just seems random. Maybe this is better targeted as I follow more people and threads will better predict my interests.
No hashtags or GIFs implemented yet hopefully in future updates. Also you can’t really customize anything at all except your profile pic.
Conclusion
Threads is great. The pros definitely out weigh the cons even on day one of the app launching. I would recommend the app to anyone to just give it a try. I’m optimistic the app will receive updates and new features that will make it even better. Threads could be the Twitter killer we’ve been waiting for.
Lastly you should give me follow on Threads 😎👍🏻
